About

Engineers working in Turkana

Almelo Limited designs and builds water, sanitation and building works in Lodwar and across Turkana County, and our engineers are on site while the work goes in.

We work for households, schools, institutions, county programmes and the organisations that fund them. Every job gets the same standard: measured on site and checked as it goes in.

What we stand for

  • Love

The work is for people. We listen first and design for the way they will use it.

  • Integrity

Honest drawings and honest prices. If something will not work, we say so early.

  • Honour

We keep our word on what we promised and when we promised it.

  • Dignity

Clean water and working sanitation close to home are a matter of dignity, so we design them properly.

  • Excellence

Lines, levels and materials are checked as the work goes in, not after.

The name on our backs

“Almelo Limited. Driven by Quality.” is printed on the back of our site vests. Clients and neighbours read it every day we are on site, so it is the standard we ask them to hold us to.

How a job runs

From the first visit to the day we hand over the drawings of what was built, you always know what happens next.

  1. Four people standing on a building site by piles of gravel and stone, acacia trees behind.

    Step 1

    First, a site visit

We come to the plot, school or farm, look at the ground and listen to what you need.

  2. A tape measure and a blue string line held along a new stone foundation course.

    Step 2

    Then we measure

Levels, boundaries, soil and water. We take them on site, with tape, line and level.

  3. Engineers checking papers beside a plank footbridge over the Napak canal.

    Step 3

    Drawings and a price

You get drawings and a priced bill of quantities that you can check line by line.

  4. People in work boots standing around a new inspection chamber cover.

    Step 4

    Permits and approvals

We prepare what the county needs to approve the work, and for boreholes, the Water Resources Authority application.

  5. Fresh concrete canal lining with timber setting-out pegs.

    Step 5

    Building, checked as it goes

Our engineers set out the work and inspect it as it goes in: lines, levels, concrete and masonry.

  6. A finished concrete-lined canal running into the distance.

    Step 6

    Handover

We walk the finished work with you and hand over drawings of what was built.
