Boreholes and water supply

We survey for water, apply for the permits, drill, test and fit the pump and tank, for homes, schools, institutions and community schemes.

A borehole starts with a survey of the ground. We do the survey first and price the drilling after it.

How it runs

  1. Site visit. We see the place and hear how much water you need and for whom.
  2. Survey and permits. The hydrogeological survey, then the Water Resources Authority application.
  3. Drilling. Drilling, casing and gravel pack at the surveyed point.
  4. Test pumping. We measure the yield and test the water before choosing the pump.
  5. Pump, tank and handover. We fit the pump, power and storage and show you how to look after them.

Our own borehole photos are coming

We have not published photographs of our borehole jobs yet. Until we do, the borehole pictures on this page are credited open-licence images, not Almelo sites. Ask us for references.

Questions people ask

Do I need a permit to drill a borehole?

Yes. In Kenya a borehole needs a hydrogeological survey and authorisation from the Water Resources Authority before drilling. We prepare both.

How deep will my borehole be?

That depends on the ground. The survey gives an expected depth and yield, and we price from it. We won’t guess a depth before the survey.

Can the pump run on solar?

Often, yes. Solar pumping suits many sites in Turkana. We size the panels and the pump to the tested yield.

Do you drill outside Lodwar?

Yes, across Turkana County. Name the nearest town in your brief and we’ll plan the visit.

What happens next

We visit the site, then arrange the hydrogeological survey and the Water Resources Authority application. We price the drilling once the survey is back.
